The Summer Solstice, also known as Litha in the pagan Wheel of the Year, marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. On this radiant day, the sun is at its highest point in the sky and offers us the full force of its light, warmth, and life-giving energy.
For women—especially those navigating the transformational waters of perimenopause—this is a potent time to reclaim vitality, honor the body’s inner cycles, and connect with the healing power of nature.
Let this be a reminder: you are a cyclical being, too. Just like the sun, you rise and fall. You burn bright, and you rest deep. And on this luminous day, you’re invited to honor your own light.

What Is Litha?
Litha is the midsummer celebration observed by many ancient cultures and earth-based traditions. It is a sacred fire festival—celebrating abundance, fertility, and the power of the sun at its peak.
Traditionally, people celebrated with:
- Bonfires to honor the sun’s power
- Herbal offerings and flower crowns
- Feasting on summer’s first harvest
- Prayers for protection, fertility, and good health
For modern women, especially in midlife, Litha is an invitation to reconnect with your solar energy—your passion, creativity, and sense of purpose.
Why the Solstice Matters in Perimenopause
During perimenopause, many women feel like the flame within is flickering. Energy dips. Mood swings. Foggy thoughts. The once-steady rhythms of hormones begin to dance in unfamiliar patterns.
The Summer Solstice offers a spiritual reset. It’s a time to:
- Reignite your inner fire
- Celebrate the body you’re in now
- Shift from depletion into nourishment
- Remember that your power evolves, not disappears
Let this season be a mirror, showing you how radiant you still are.

Solstice Rituals to Soothe, Strengthen & Shine
Here are gentle yet powerful ways to celebrate Litha and the Summer Solstice—each one designed to align you with solar energy and nourish your whole self.
-
Make Sun Tea
Harness the power of the sun—literally. Fill a glass jar with filtered water and your favorite herbs (mint, lemon balm, rose petals, chamomile, hibiscus, or even green tea).
Place it in a sunny windowsill or outside for a few hours and as it steeps, infuse it with your intentions:
“May this tea nourish my body and brighten my spirit.”
Add a slice of citrus, pour over ice, and sip it slowly while soaking in your own radiance.
-
Create a Flower Offering or Crown
Flowers are sacred symbols of fertility, abundance, and beauty. Pick wildflowers (or buy a few from the market) and create a simple offering on your altar, in your yard, or even in a bowl of water.
If you’re feeling creative, make a flower crown as a celebration of your feminine power. Wear it while you journal, meditate, or simply enjoy a summer meal.
-
Write a Light & Shadow Letter
The Solstice is a threshold—a midpoint. A perfect time to reflect.
Light: What parts of you are growing stronger? What are you proud of?
Shadow: What’s ready to be released? What’s draining your energy?
Write it all out. Burn the shadow letter (safely) as an act of letting go. Keep the light letter to remind yourself of what you’re calling in.
-
Charge Your Crystals (and Your Self)
Place your favorite healing crystals (like citrine, rose quartz, or carnelian) outside or on a sunny windowsill to cleanse and recharge.
Then, let yourself receive the same energy: Sit in the sun for 5–10 minutes with your face turned toward the light. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply.
Feel the sun warming your skin. Feel your own energy replenishing.
-
Solar Breathwork or Gentle Fire Flow
Activate your inner fire with breathwork or movement. Try the solar-powered 4-7-8 breath:
- Inhale through your nose for 4
- Hold for 7
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for 8
Repeat 4 rounds to calm and ground.
Or, do a simple yoga flow of Sun Salutations, moving slowly and with presence. Let your breath lead. Let the light move through you.
-
Eat with the Season
Celebrate summer’s bounty with fresh, vibrant food:
- Bright berries, stone fruits, watermelon
- Cooling herbs like mint, basil, and cilantro
- Light grains and crisp greens
- A splash of citrus or honey
Eating seasonally is a beautiful way to feel in rhythm with the Earth—and to support hormone balance during perimenopause.
-
Light a Candle with a Prayer
If you can’t have a bonfire, light a single candle. As it burns, offer a prayer or affirmation to the sun:
“As the sun shines today, may I remember my own radiance. I am not fading, I am shifting. May my body be at peace. May my soul feel light. May my life be aligned.”
Let the candle burn while you write, stretch, or simply sit in stillness.

This Solstice, Claim Your Radiance
The Solstice teaches us that light is cyclical. Just as the sun rises to fullness and then begins to fall, so too do our own lives move in seasons. If you are in a time of personal transition—through perimenopause, through grief, through change—let this day be a marker of your inner power.
You are still radiant.
You are still magic.
You are still full of light.
Celebrate the longest day by turning inward, and honoring the eternal sun within.
